This was my second quilt. I made it in a class called “Exploring Color Choices,” taught by Annie Smith at our LQS. The workshop helped us learn more about combining colors, and the way light and dark values work against/with each other. If you’ll notice, all the blocks are made of the exact same pattern; yet they look totally different because of the placement of the light and dark fabrics. Annie helped us choose 10 fabrics based on a focus piece, and made sure we had a full spectrum of values - something most quilters don’t tend to do in one quilt.
We played around A LOT with all the pieces, trying them in various configurations. Very fun! I learned a lot! For example, I learned about super helpful fork pins, that aid in getting seams to align.

You can get the “workshop in a bag” here, at her online store. It’s not the same as taking a class with Annie, but helpful nonetheless.
It was my first (and so far only jk forgot about this one) foray into Asian style fabrics.
Teaj thinks he looks quite handsome on the quilt.
In case you were wondering, Teaj is pronounced Teee-zh; it’s a great name with a great story, courtesy of Teaj’s original Mama Kamille. Will have to tell it sometime.
I gave the quilt to my grandmother. The soft peaches and clear blues are elegant and vibrant, just like her. Would you agree?

Here we are at the polls last January. 86 years old and voting - how about you?
