I like taking the self-taught route to my various hobbies. If at all possible, however, I highly recommend taking classes, especially when you’re first starting out. They really helped propel my comfort and technique; seasoned teachers have so many tidbits of knowledge to share, and the camaraderie amongst fellow students and being able to see what others are doing are great, as well.
This was a quilt I finished in a weekend, taking the “Begin with Bev II” class at our LQS. Despite the floral print (another Asian print, I lied in an earlier post), I gave this quilt to Joe. I had to! I’d finish several projects and the person who is the most supportive of this habit, who gave me my sewing machine, still hadn’t received a gift. I still have to make him a “guy” quilt, though this is the 21st century and we shouldn’t be so tied to societal gender norms, right? :)
